Fresno, California – The ECHL announced today that Utah rookie Tyler Haskins has been named the CCM Vector ECHL Rookie of the Month for January.
Following his first trip to the Grizzlies and Islanders AHL affiliate in Bridgeport, the 21-year-old returned to Utah January 9 and scored 11 goals for 16 points in 11 games during the month of January.
Haskins recorded back-to-back hat tricks January 16 and 18 and had three games during January where he recorded four points.
He along with Utah forward Ryan Kinasewich, became the first two players in ten years to share the ECHL player of the week award from January 14-20 as Utah took two of three from the Phoenix RoadRunners.
Drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the fifth round (162nd overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft and under contract to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League, Haskins leads the Grizzlies with 21 assists and is tied with fellow rookie Keith Johnson for second in scoring with 34 points in 33 games.
The Grizzlies open a four-game road trip tonight in Fresno. Face-off is scheduled for 8:05 p.m.
Utah returns home Thursday, February 14 opening a three-game-in-three-night home stand with Bakersfield.
