Calgary Signs Former Grizzlies Nemesis J.P. Lamoureux

J.P. Lamoureux
On the same day that the Calgary Flames and Utah Grizzlies announced an extension and expansion of their affiliation, Calgary also announced the signing of possibly the biggest nemesis in Utah Grizzlies history in former Alaska goaltender J.P. Lamoureux who signs an AHL contract.

Lamoureux, during the 2008-2009 season with Alaska, shutout Utah five times and went 10-1-1 with a goals-against-average of under 2.00 and a save percentage of over .945 against the Grizzlies. Those numbers include Utah pouring seven goals on him in a 7-3 win opening night in 2008; before he proceeded to go unbeaten in eleven-straight games against the Grizzlies to finish the campaign. He also collected ECHL Goaltender of the Year honors while also being named to the All ECHL First Team and the ECHL All Rookie Team. The North Dakota native went 33-16-2 during his rookie season in Anchorage and led the Aces to game seven of the Kelly Cup Finals.

The 25-year-old spent this past season with the AHL’s Portland Pirates going 14-12-2 with two shutouts and a 2.98 goals-against-average.

CalgaryFlames.com now lists Lamoureux, Matt Keetley and 2006 first round draft pick Leland Irving as their three goaltenders “in the system” with Mikka Kiprusoff and Henrik Karlsson listed as the Calgary goaltenders. Both Irving and Keetley spent time last year in Victoria.
